Consider Using an EAP (Employee Assistance Program)

If you are looking for therapeutic help, many times a good place to begin is by accessing an EAP.  Employee Assistance Programs are a free and confidential assessment and referral program that are often included as a part of an employee's benefit package and can be used by the employee or by a spouse, partner or family member.

The program is administered by trained and licensed counselors who are able to assess the types of problems someone is experiencing and then either begin short-term counseling or help that individual find a resource within their community that can assess them further.  Resources may include a specialist, a group or an organization that can address long term needs.

The vast majority of people who use an EAP have never had therapy before and do not know what to expect.  The beauty of these programs is that it not only provides needed resources, but it can educate clients and bridge the gap for access to mental health services.  Employee Assistance Programs are found in at least 90% of United States corporations and are known throughout Europe.
